Skin Toning : Types of Skin Toner

Skin Tonic

These may vary in strength, achieving a toning and cooling effect, without any harsh stinging. The mildest tonics are based on rosewater with added glycerine and may be used on dry, dehydrated or mature skin.

Corrective Lotions/Fresheners

The slightly stronger fresheners (may contain alkalis) are based on seaweed extract, camomile, and other soothing plant extract to correct the skin's oil balance and to reduce or pevent the formation of comedones. It produces stimulating and cooling effects, but contains no alcohol and rely for action on phytotherapy.

Astringent

They contain herbal plant extracts and witch hazel to balance oil flow, refine and help heal the oily skin. Astringents containing any alcohol are not advised for sensitive, mature or blemished skins. Astringent containing alcohol is also the stringest of the toners: it irrirates the skin causing swelling around the pores and gives a temporary impressionn that the open pores look less obvious. Some astringents may also contain antiseptic substances, which kill surface bacteria and are useful in treating blemished skin as they help to dry and heal pusfules and prevent the formation of comedones.
