All percussion movement are stimulating and should only be used if a general toning effect is required from the massage, rather than relaxation. Sufficient muscular and adipose tissue must be present for these movements to be applied to any part of the body. It should be applied with care and discretion.
Tapotement Movement comes in many different forms, the best known are tapping, slapping, clapping/cupping, beating, pounding and hacking
Effects

A very stimulating effect is produced on the circulatory system

Sensory nerve ending are irritated, so bringing about vaso-dialation of blood vessels

Erythema is produced locally, thus a local rise in skin temperature

Causes muscle fivers to contract momentarily as a response to stimuli. Nerve paths become clearer and muscles improve in tone and muscular response

Pratical Care

Performed in a light or with pressure, brisk and stimulating manner

The rhythm of the strokes is important, as the fingers are continually breaking contact with the skin and the movements could be irritating if performed incorrectly
